Mercedes (Mercy) Thompson, the daughter of what she assumes is a Blackfoot Indian (Old Joe Coyote) and a white teenage mother. Mercy is a mechanic and a "walker" or "avatar" - a Native American shape shifter who transforms into a coyote, sees the spirits of the dead, and has a prominent inborn resistance to most magic (vampiric or otherwise) although she notes she seems more resistant to mundane magic and the more lethal it gets the less her resistance. She's only really heard of skinwalkers who can change into anything they wish to, but all she changes into is a coyote. And she's not evil. There's that going for her. She bought her moderately-successful and beloved auto repair shop from Zee, a member of the fae who is glamored to appear as an old man. Zee sold the shop when he was forced by the Grey Lords (Fae rulers) to reveal himself to the public.
Mercy lives in Kennewick, Washington on several acres of land. She used to live in a manufactured home (that's right she lived in a trailer home) and she has an old Rabbit, Volkswagon that she keeps in a prominent place in view of her neighbor - now husband Adam Hauptman's house to get back at him when he irritates her. She only rebels in roundabout ways because he's an Alpha werewolf and she's not stupid. Mercy actually grew up in Montana under the care of the Marrok, the werewolf in charge of the United States packs. So she knows a great deal of werewolf etiquette although she never really fit in until she bonded with Adam and agreed to become his mate. His pack is finally starting to accept her after years of actively disliking her.
Mercy is friends with a Vampire (Stephan) and the local Mistress of the Seethe doesn't much care for her. Some of the fae like Zee are quite fond of her and others would just as soon see her dead. Like Coyote of Indian legend she seems to bring chaos with her, she can be quite sly but in general tries to do good.
Mercy also tends to do investigation for the local supernatural community, more to help out friends or save her own skin that any deep desire to become a Private Investigator. She loves the garage work, but who can ignore a good mystery? And if it's going to be done you might as well do it right.
I currently have her up to date with Fire Burned.
